Malibari Pather High School

Malibari Pather High School is right in the middle of the action at Main Bazaar in Yerawada. If you know Pune, you know that Yerawada is a place that never really stays quiet. Our school is surrounded by all sorts of shops and stalls. You can hear the vegetable sellers and the traffic all day long. It is a very lively place to be. The school building has been part of this street for a long time. It’s not a shiny new building, but it's where the local kids come to study. The hallways are narrow and the walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but they are covered in student drawings and charts instead. We don't have a big playground, so the kids make the most of the space we have inside. During the rainy season, the bazaar gets a bit muddy, and everyone tracks it into the lobby. We just mop it up and keep going. The staff room is small and usually smells like tea and old books. We don't have any corporate management telling us what to do; it’s just us teachers and the principal trying to get through the syllabus. People from all over Yerawada send their children here because it’s convenient and they know us. It is a very humble place, just doing the work of a regular high school in a busy bazaar. We often see former students stopping by to say hello while they are out doing their shopping.
