Mahesh Engineering Works

The shop is right here on Dev Ashish Road, number 166 in Dhayari. It’s not a big place, just a regular engineering workshop where we spend most of our daylight hours. Mahesh started this whole thing quite a while back, and the walls have seen a lot of grease and metal dust since then. We have some lathes and a few welding machines that make a lot of noise. If you walk past, you’ll probably hear the grinding sounds or see sparks flying near the entrance. Most of the guys working here have been around for years, so we all know each other’s habits. We deal with whatever metal parts people bring in, sometimes it is a broken gate hinge or some industrial component that needs a bit of turning. The floor is never really clean, no matter how much we sweep, because that’s just how it goes with metalwork. We don’t have a fancy office or any air conditioning, just a ceiling fan that wobbles a bit when it's on high speed. There is a tea stall down the road where we get our morning and afternoon cutting chai. It's just a regular local business doing what we know. We don’t spend much time on the phone or computer; we’d rather be at the bench fixing something. That is pretty much what happens here every single day from morning until the shutters go down.
