It’s a bit unusual running Cafe Wild Beans out of Flat No. 11 in Utopia Society, but it works for us. We are located in Fantasia B in Wanorie, so it feels more like a home than a shop. Every morning, the first thing I do is click on the espresso machine and wait for it to hiss. The smell of the beans starts to fill up the living area, and that’s when I know the day has started. We don’t have huge crowds or a big sign out on the street. It’s mostly neighbors from the society or people who live nearby and want a quiet place to sit for a minute. I spend a lot of time wiping down the counters and making sure the milk is fresh. Sometimes the grinder is too loud and I worry about the people next door, but they usually just come in for a cup anyway. The kitchen is small, so we have to stay organized or things get messy fast. We have a few chairs out on the balcony where it’s nice to sit when the sun isn't too strong. It’s not a big commercial operation with uniforms and manuals. It’s just me and a couple of helpers making coffee and maybe some snacks. We use regular mugs and simple spoons. It feels like having friends over every day, except they pay for the coffee.
