Deepali Engineering

Our workshop is at Gat No. 90, situated right near the Jyotiba Mangal Karyalaya in Jyotiba Nagar. Talwade is a busy industrial hub, and Deepali Engineering is right in the thick of it. There is always the sound of metal hitting metal or the hiss of some machine running. It’s a rough and ready kind of place. We don’t have fancy carpets or a quiet waiting room. The floor is stained with oil and there are metal shavings in the corners. We spend our days in heavy boots, moving parts around and making sure the lathes are running right. It gets really hot in the summer, especially under the tin roof, but we’ve got a few big fans that help a bit. The tea stall nearby is where we all go at four o'clock. It’s a good chance to catch our breath and talk about the weekend. Working in engineering means your hands are never really clean, but we don't mind that. We take things as they come. If a machine breaks, we fix it. If an order is late, we stay late. It’s a simple way of doing things without any of the corporate talk you hear in the city offices. We’ve been in Talwade long enough to know the other shop owners around us, and we all kind of look out for one another. It is a tough job but someone has to do it.
