If you walk through Wanowarie, specifically around Lokmanya Nagar 3, you will find us at By The Tree. The name actually makes sense when you see the spot. It is a quiet enough area most of the time, though the traffic picks up in the afternoons. We spend a lot of our morning prep time just chopping things and getting the kitchen ready. It’s a small team here, mostly just a few of us who have known each other for years. We don't have a big corporate manual or anything like that. We just show up, put on our aprons, and start the day. The chairs are wooden and we’ve had to fix a couple of them lately because they get a lot of use. Sometimes the regulars come in and stay for an hour just talking, and we don't mind. It makes the place feel more like a living room than a business. The sunlight hits the front window around three o'clock and it gets pretty warm inside for a bit. We usually open the door wide to let the breeze in. We handle everything from taking orders to washing the dishes at the end of the night. It is hard work and our backs sometimes ache by closing time, but it is what we do. We try to keep things simple and not overcomplicate the menu. People seem to appreciate that we are just normal folks doing our jobs. Every day is different.
