Working at Pimpri Adarsh Chowk means you never have a quiet moment. The traffic on Kalewadi Main Road is constant. Avinash Engineering sits right there, where the noise of the street mixes with the sound of our machines. We have a lot of metal scrap lying around. Most of the day is spent measuring things or cutting steel. It gets hot, especially in the summer when the tin roof picks up all that heat. We don't wear fancy clothes here. Everything is stained with oil or burnt from sparks. It’s a messy job. People come in with broken parts from machines or sketches on pieces of paper. We look at it, figure out how to make it work, and then get the tools out. There’s a specific smell to hot metal that you never really forget. My hands are always a bit rough, but that’s engineering for you. It’s not about being pretty; it’s about making sure the part fits. We take our lunch breaks when we can, usually sitting on a stool near the entrance. You watch the bikes and cars go by on the main road and wait for the power to stay steady. Sometimes the machines act up and we have to fix them before we can fix anything else. It’s just how it is. Pimpri is a busy area for this kind of work. We’re just one small part of it.
