National Institute Of Oceanographygoa

It might seem a bit strange to have a National Institute of Oceanography branch out here in Atakurde. We are in the Talbhudargad area of the Kolhapur district in Maharashtra. It’s a long way from the actual beach, but we still handle our part of the work from this location. The setting is very rural and quiet compared to the Goa offices. We’re surrounded by hills and green fields instead of waves. Our building is simple, just a practical space where we can get our tasks done without many distractions. Local people around the village know us, even if they don't quite get what oceanography has to do with Kolhapur. We have a small team here. Most of us have been living in the district for a long time. The office is basic, with just the essentials like desks, some old computers, and plenty of storage for files. It’s a bit of a drive to get here from the main town, but we like the peace. We don’t have any big meetings or corporate events. It’s just daily work, checking records and coordinating with the main office. Sometimes the power goes out during the monsoon, so we just wait it out and chat. It’s a humble place, but it’s where we do our bit for the institute while staying close to home in Maharashtra.
