If you walk over to Bali Pratap Chowk, you will see our small shop tucked away there. We call it Surya Mobile. It is mostly just a room full of glass cases with different phone models and rows of colorful plastic cases hanging on the walls. We spend a lot of time sitting here with those tiny screwdrivers, trying to fix cracked screens or replacing batteries that have given up. The chowk is always noisy with traffic and people shouting, so there is never a quiet moment. Most folks come in because their phone stopped charging or they dropped it in water while working. We do not have those big fancy displays you see in the city malls. It is just a practical spot where you can get a new tempered glass or a cheap pair of earphones that actually work. Sometimes the electricity goes out and we have to use a torch to finish a repair. We have been at this spot for some time now, so we know which chargers last and which ones are just junk. It is funny how much people depend on these little metal boxes nowadays. When a phone is fixed, seeing the look of relief on someone's face is okay, I guess. We also do recharges for those who do not like doing it online. It gets crowded in the evenings when everyone is out for a walk around the chowk. We just keep working until it is time to head home and rest for the next day.
