Being near the Station Road Police Line means there is always someone walking by, either travelers from the train or people heading to the station. Shayam Mobile Shop is mostly about fixing broken things. We have a small glass counter where we keep the chargers and the cheap earphones that everyone seems to need these days. The light inside is a bit bright because we need to see the tiny screws when we take a phone apart. Often, someone comes in with a cracked screen and they are in a big hurry, so we do what we can as fast as possible. It’s a bit messy on the workbench with all the wires and soldering tools lying around in piles. We don't have a lot of fancy chairs, just a couple of plastic ones for people to sit on while they wait for their battery to charge. The noise from the traffic outside never really stops. Sometimes the internet is slow and we can't update the software as fast as we want to. We just keep working through the day, drinking tea and talking to the neighbors. The front door sticks a bit when the weather is humid, so you have to give it a good shove to get inside. It’s a simple job, really. We sell some recharge cards and help people figure out why their apps aren't working right. The shop isn't big, but it’s enough for us to handle the daily repairs and keep things going.
