Rankawat Communication is just a small place we have here at number 62 on Navlakha Road. It’s right by the old bus stand, so you can imagine how noisy it gets during the day with all the honking and the dust flying around. We spend a lot of time just wiping down the glass counters because of all that road grime. I usually get here around nine in the morning to roll up the shutters and see what needs doing. Most days it’s just people coming in because their phone screen cracked or they need a quick recharge while they wait for their bus to arrive. We have a couple of plastic chairs for people to sit on, but they’re usually occupied by someone complaining about the heat or the delay in the bus schedule. It’s not a fancy shop by any means. The wiring for the lights is a bit of a mess tucked behind the desk, and the ceiling fan has this steady clicking sound that you eventually stop hearing after an hour or so of being here. We’ve got some basic stock hanging on the walls, mostly cables and covers that have been there a bit too long and gathered a little dust. Sometimes we run out of change in the till and I have to go to the tea shop next door to ask for some coins. It’s just how it goes here. We try to get things fixed as fast as we can because nobody likes being without their phone for long. It’s just us doing our thing on this busy street day after day.
