Purohit Tent House

Our place, Purohit Tent House, is located right on Sumerpur Road. It’s a busy spot with trucks and cars zooming past all day long. We deal with everything related to setting up for functions. It’s mostly heavy lifting, moving iron poles, large wooden stages, and bundles of thick cloth. During the wedding months, we are barely home. We spend our nights at different grounds, hammering stakes into the dirt and making sure the canopies are secure. The shop itself is more like a warehouse. It’s full of folded carpets that smell a bit like dust and old parties. We don’t have a polished office or a receptionist. Usually, you’ll find me or my brother covered in a bit of dirt, checking the inventory or loading the trolley. We’ve been operating from this same spot for years. People from the nearby villages know us and just stop their tractors outside when they need to book something. We don't use fancy brochures. We just show them some old photos we have on our phones of previous jobs we have done. The weather is our biggest worry, especially when the wind picks up on the open road. It’s hard work and your back hurts at the end of the day, but it’s what our family does. We just aim to get the tents up before the guests arrive and take them down once everyone is gone. It is a practical life and we like it.
