Surajpole is a busy area and our shop sits right where the sun hits the front window in the morning. Gurunanak Mobile Shop is quite small, so if three people come in at once, it feels very crowded inside. We have these glass cases filled with different phone covers, mostly the bright ones that the younger kids like to buy. A lot of our day is spent showing people how to use their new phones or fixing a button that got stuck. We don't have a fancy sign, just a simple one that’s been there for years. The floor is made of old tiles that are a bit cracked in the corners. We keep a small radio playing in the background to pass the time when it’s quiet. We have to wipe down the glass cases every few hours because of all the smudges from people leaning on them while they talk. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to sit in the dark until it comes back on, which is just part of living here. We know the other shopkeepers around Surajpole, and we often share a plate of snacks in the afternoon. It’s a decent way to spend the day, helping folks get their phones working so they can call their families. We aren't trying to do anything big, just keeping the shop open and doing the repairs as they come in.
