Balaji Optician & Mobile Care

Our shop, Balaji Optician & Mobile Care, sits right on College Road. It’s a bit of an odd mix, having glasses and mobile phones in the same place, but it works for us. We started out with just one side of it and then added the other because that’s what people were asking for. College students walk by all day long, and we see plenty of them coming in with broken phone screens or looking for a new pair of frames. The shop is small and we try to keep it tidy, though sometimes the workbench gets cluttered with tiny screws and tools. We spend a lot of time squinting at small parts or adjusting the bridge of a pair of spectacles. It’s quiet work for the most part, except for the traffic outside. We aren't a big chain store with matching uniforms. It’s just us here, doing the best we can with what we have. If a repair is tricky, it might take an extra day, and we tell people that straight. We don't like to overcomplicate things. Living and working on College Road means there’s always something happening outside the door. We enjoy the routine of it all. Making sure someone can see clearly or get their phone working again is just what our day looks like. It’s a practical little spot for the local neighborhood.
