S J Engineering

We are based in Gala No A 4, inside the Hasan Compound in Dhumal Nagar. It’s in Vasai East, right near the National Ojan Kanta. Being in a compound like this means we are surrounded by other workshops and small factories. S J Engineering is where we do our metal work and machining. The sound of grinders and lathes is pretty much constant from eight in the morning. It’s a small space, so we have to be very organized or we’d never find our tools. Most of us have been working with machines for a long time. The floor is usually covered in metal shavings, which we sweep up every evening. We deal with all sorts of engineering jobs, some big and some very small. We don't have a receptionist or a waiting room. If you come by, you’ll probably find us at the machines or looking over a drawing on the workbench. The heat in Vasai can be tough in the summer, especially with the machines running, but we have a few big fans that help. We get our orders mostly through word of mouth. People in the compound know what we can do, and they tell others. It’s a very hands-on kind of life. We don't worry about being polished; we just worry about making sure the parts are made to the right size. It’s honest work in a busy part of Dhumal Nagar. We keep going until the job is done right.
