Union Glass Company is situated right in the heart of Chowk Tilak Bazar at 792. If you’ve ever been to this part of the city, you know it’s one of the most crowded places you can find. There are carts and people everywhere, and the noise is constant. Our shop is tucked in there, filled with all sorts of glass bottles and jars. It's a bit of a maze inside because we try to fit as much stock as possible into the space we have. Glass is heavy and fragile, so we have to be careful how we stack it. Most of our days are spent unloading crates and helping customers who come in looking for a specific type of container for their oils or perfumes. We don't have a website that does the work for us; it’s mostly face-to-face. We’ve been here for years, and we know many of the other traders around the bazar. It’s a dusty place, and cleaning the glass is a never-ending task. We use old ledgers to keep track of things, and the phone rings pretty much all day long. Sometimes we don't have exactly what someone wants in stock, so we have to dig through the back to see if we missed anything. It’s a traditional way of doing business, but it works for us. We just handle the glass, talk to the regulars, and try to avoid any breakages during the day.
