Shiv Narain Sawhney & Son

Shiv Narain Sawhney & Son has been operating out of 53, Shardhanand Marg for a long time. We are tucked away near the Hanuman Mandir, so we hear the bells and the prayers every day. It’s a family business through and through. My father started it, and now we carry it on together. The shop isn't very big, and we’ve definitely outgrown the space, but we like being here. There is a lot of history in these walls. We don't use any fancy computer systems to track everything; we still rely on a lot of paper notebooks and memory. Shardhanand Marg is always crowded, and getting a truck in here to unload can be a real headache sometimes. But we make it work. We sell various supplies and parts, and we try to keep a little bit of everything. It’s a bit dusty and the paint is peeling in a few spots, but it feels like home to us. We don't have a "philosophy" or anything, we just show up, open the shutters, and see who needs help. On festival days, the area gets even more packed, and we might close a little early to go to the mandir ourselves. It’s a good community to be a part of. We’ve known the families around here for generations. We just keep doing what we’ve always done, one day at a time. It's a steady life for us.
