S Lal Tools is right in the thick of things at Hauz Qazi. Our shop is numbered 4762/4763 in the Chand Market area. If you’ve ever been to Hauz Qazi, you know how packed it is. There are people everywhere and the shops are tiny and piled high with goods. Ours is no different. We have tools hanging from the ceiling and tucked into every corner. Sometimes it takes me a minute to remember exactly where I put a specific wrench or a set of pliers, but I usually find it. I took over this place from my father, and not much has changed since his time. The wooden counters are worn smooth from years of people leaning on them and sliding tools across. We don't have air conditioning, just a couple of old ceiling fans that struggle against the Delhi heat. The market is loud, with people shouting and carts rattling over the stones outside. It’s a lot of energy, and I guess I’ve grown to like it over the years. We stay busy from the moment the market opens until we pull the shutters down at night. We don't spend money on marketing or fancy logos. Our name is painted on a board outside, and that’s enough for the regulars who know we’re here. It’s a small family business, and we just keep plugging away day after day.
