Our shop, Punnet Jewels, is at 1734, Dariba Kalan. This street is famous for jewelry, and we are just one of the many small businesses here. The building is quite old and the stairs are narrow and a bit steep. We have a small room where we keep everything. It’s not like those big modern showrooms you see in the malls. We have simple glass counters and some old stools for people to sit on. The lighting isn't the best, but we have some desk lamps that help. Every morning, we open up the heavy locks and set things out. There’s always someone shouting outside or a cart being pushed past the door. Dariba Kalan has a lot of history and you can feel it in the walls. We spend a lot of time just talking to customers about what they need. Sometimes we sit and drink coffee while waiting for a delivery. It can get very crowded in the lane, especially during the festival season. We try to keep our space organized, but with so many small items, it’s a constant struggle. We’ve seen many shops change hands over the years, but we’re still here at 1734. We don’t have a website or anything like that, we just rely on people walking by and our old regulars. It’s a slow and steady way of working that we’ve gotten used to.
