Our place is at 1062 Bartan Market, right in the middle of Sadar Bazar. If you have ever been to Sadar Bazar, you know how crowded and loud it gets every single day. Bartan Market is no different. We are surrounded by other shops and traders, so there is always the sound of people talking and handcarts moving through the narrow lanes. Our office is more like a storehouse with a small space for us to sit and work. There are stacks of boxes almost reaching the ceiling in some parts. It is not the kind of place where you come to sit in a comfortable lounge. We are usually busy counting stock or writing out invoices by hand. The air is always filled with the smell of the market and there is rarely a quiet moment. We’ve been in this spot for a long time, and we know most of the other shopkeepers around us. We don’t have a website that we update or a social media page. We just open the shutters in the morning and close them in the evening when the market starts to wind down. It is a very traditional way of doing business, but it is what we know. The walls have some old calendars hanging on them, and the furniture is heavy wood that has been around for decades. It is honest work in a very busy part of Delhi. Sometimes we share a quick snack with the neighbor when things slow down for a few minutes.
