If you know Chawri Bazar, you know how crowded it gets near the metro station. Our place, Diamond Tools India, is on the second floor of Aggarwal Market. You have to walk through the main road of Hauz Quazi and find the right entrance, which isn't always easy if you're in a hurry. The stairs are narrow, and there’s usually someone carrying a heavy load going the other way. Once you get up to 4778/14, things are a bit more manageable, though space is still tight. We have shelves packed to the ceiling with all kinds of cutting and grinding tools. It’s dusty work, and there’s always a layer of fine grit on the counters. We spend our days answering the phone and helping customers who come in looking for something very specific. Sometimes we don't have it right away, so we have to go digging through the back stacks. The market outside is loud, with rickshaws and people shouting, but it feels normal to us now. We’ve been here long enough that the chaos is just background noise. We don't have any fancy displays or bright lights. It’s just a warehouse and a counter where we talk shop. The light from the window isn't great, so we rely on some old tube lights that flicker once in a while. It’s a grit-and-grind type of business, literally. We just focus on the tools and the people who need them during the day.
