Bhatia Brothers

You can find us over at 56 New Lajpat Rai Market right in the middle of Chandni Chowk. If you have ever been to this part of Delhi, you know how crowded it gets with the rickshaws and people everywhere. Our shop is just one of many in this old market, but we have our own little corner. We sell all sorts of things and the shelves are usually packed tight from floor to ceiling. It gets a bit cramped when more than three people are inside at once. Usually, one of us is standing near the front while the others are digging out stock from the piles in the back. We don't really have a big staff, just the brothers and maybe a helper if it’s a busy season. The morning starts with pulling up the heavy shutters and sweeping the dust from the doorway. It is always noisy here with the shouting and the bells from the cycles. We spend a lot of time just talking to the other shopkeepers while we wait for the day to pick up. Sometimes the lights flicker when the load is high, but we are used to that. We just keep a flashlight handy. It’s a messy place sometimes with boxes lying around, but we know exactly where everything is located. That is just how life is in Chandni Chowk. We have been here for years and we don't plan on moving. Every evening we lock up and head through the narrow lanes to get home. It’s tiring but it’s our life.
