Yamini School Of Dance

Yamini School Of Dance is right in the middle of Hauz Khas. If you know the area, you know it can get pretty crowded with people and cars, but once you step inside the school, it feels a bit different. We have these large rooms with wooden floors where the students practice. You can often hear the sound of the ghungroos jingling or the beat of the music echoing out into the hallway. It isn't a modern studio with mirrors everywhere and neon lights. It is more of a traditional space where we focus on the art itself. Some of the students have been coming here since they were very young. We started this place because we wanted a spot in Hauz Khas where people could learn dance without it feeling like a big commercial gym. The walls are painted a simple white and we have some old photos of performances from years ago hanging up. It gets a bit dusty because of the open windows but that’s just part of being in this part of town. We don't spend money on fancy brochures or big signs. Usually, someone sees a class going on or a friend tells them to come by. It’s a relaxed atmosphere where the main thing is just getting the steps right and enjoying the rhythm. We are just a local group of dancers keeping the tradition alive in our own small way.
