The Apparel Training & Design Centre

We have been here in Yamuna Vihar for a while now. Most people around this part of Delhi know the C-4 block, and we are right there at 92. It is not some fancy corporate office, just a practical place where people come to learn the ropes of making clothes. We deal with all sorts of fabrics and patterns every single day. Some people think designing is easy, but there is actually a whole lot to get right when you are sitting behind a sewing machine or holding a piece of tailor’s chalk. My colleagues and I just focus on showing the basics and some of the more advanced stuff too. The neighborhood gets busy, so there is always a bit of noise from the street, but inside we just try to concentrate on the designs. Sometimes the threads get all tangled up or an old machine starts acting up, but that is just a normal part of the job for us. People come from different parts of Delhi to see how we do things here. We do not have a big shiny lobby or anyone to greet you at the door. It is mostly just rooms filled with tables and people trying to figure out how a sleeve is supposed to fit into a shoulder. We have seen many different students come through these doors over the years. Some are really nervous when they first start, but after a few weeks, they usually get the hang of it. It is just honest, practical work. We spend time looking at measurements.
