Our little corner is down in the basement of the Oriental Bank of Commerce building, right in the middle of R.K. Market. If you know Munirka, you know how crowded it gets, but once you head down to Lg-2, it’s a bit quieter. We spend most of our time at 92E/1 surrounded by scraps of fabric and wood. It’s not a polished showroom by any means. There’s usually a pot of tea going and a lot of unfinished projects sitting on the workbenches. We started Vani Crafts because we liked making stuff, and it just sort of grew from there. We don't have a big staff, just a few of us who know the trade. Sometimes the deliveries are late or the power goes out, which is pretty normal around here. We just handle it and keep going. When people come in, they usually have to step over a few boxes. We’re more interested in the actual making part than in keeping everything perfectly tidy for visitors. It’s a practical space. We’ve been in this building for some time now, and the neighbors know us. We do things the old-fashioned way, mostly because that’s what we’re used to. It's a lot of manual labor, but it feels right. You won't find any glossy brochures here, just us working away in the basement. It’s not always easy, but it’s what we do.
