About Saraswati Music College – Education in New Delhi
Our college is tucked away in A 1/226 in Safdarjung Enclave. If you walk past our building, you’ll probably hear someone practicing the sitar or maybe a harmonium. We've been teaching music here for quite a long time. It’s not a fancy corporate setup; it’s more of a place where people come to sit down and learn their instruments. We have different rooms for different things. Some are for vocal practice and others have the heavier instruments like tablas or keyboards. The floors are often covered with mats because that’s how we sit for many of our traditional classes. People come here from all over Delhi, some after work and some younger students after their regular school is done. The teachers are mostly older folks who have been playing for decades. They’re pretty strict about the practice but they know their stuff. Safdarjung is a nice enough area, but parking can be a real pain near the college, so most of our students just get dropped off or take the metro nearby. We don't do much marketing or anything; people usually find us through word of mouth or because they live in the enclave. The walls have some old photos of musicians and some awards we've picked up over the years. It’s a bit dusty sometimes with all the old instruments around, but it feels like a real place where music is actually happening every day of the week. We just keep our heads down and teach.
