Sangeetalaya

Sangeetalaya is located right in the middle of the Madhu Vihar Market in I P Extension, specifically at D-8 on Street No 19. Being in a market area means it’s always lively around us. You can hear the vegetable sellers and the traffic while you’re trying to learn a raga, but it’s part of the charm of the place. We’ve been here in this little corner for a long time. It’s a small shop turned into a music studio, so it’s a bit of a tight squeeze when we have more than four or five people in at once. We don’t have a big reception desk or anyone to answer the phones all day; we’re usually too busy with the instruments. We teach because we like it, and it keeps us busy. The walls are covered with some old photos and some charts that have started to yellow at the edges. It’s an honest place. We don’t try to look like those fancy music academies you see in the mall. We’re just a local spot in Madhu Vihar where people can come to learn. Sometimes we run out of space for all the sitars, so they end up leaning against the wall in the hallway. It’s a bit messy, but it’s a real place where real learning happens. If you’re around Street No 19, just look for the D-8 sign and you’ll find us easily enough. We keep the door open most of the day.
