Sakura

Our place is located on Bangla Sahib Road in Connaught Place. It’s a busy area because of the Gurudwara nearby, so there’s always a lot of activity outside. We tried to make the inside feel a bit different, like a quiet escape from all the noise of the city. I work the floor and help out in the kitchen when they need me. We spend a lot of time on the small details, like making sure the rice is the right temperature and the fish is fresh. It’s a lot of work and sometimes things don't go perfectly. The delivery van might be late because of the CP traffic, or one of the coolers might stop working on a hot day. We just deal with those things as they come up. The furniture is mostly wood and it’s starting to show some wear and tear, especially the chairs that get used the most. I spend my mornings cleaning the windows and setting the tables with the chopsticks and napkins. We get a lot of office workers during the week who are in a hurry, and then families on the weekends who stay much longer. The air conditioning is always running high because the Delhi heat is tough. We don't say much to each other when it's busy; we just keep moving and making sure the plates get to the right tables. It’s a good place to be.
