Rachna Gupta

Working at 228 Sansad Marg in the New Lawyers Chamber is a different kind of busy. We are so close to the Supreme Court that you can always see people in black robes rushing around with files under their arms. Inside our space, Rachna Gupta and the rest of us are usually buried under piles of paperwork that never seems to end. There are books everywhere, mostly law volumes that weigh a ton and have very small print. It is not a very quiet office because there is always someone coming in to drop off a document or ask a question about a case. The chairs are a bit old and they squeak every time you move, which can be annoying. We eat lunch at our desks most days because there is just too much to get through. Sometimes we go down to the canteen to get some food and hear the latest gossip about what is happening in the courts. It is a serious environment, but we try to keep it light among ourselves. The walls are lined with wooden cabinets that are stuffed to the brim with folders. We have to be careful with the filing system because if one thing goes missing, it takes hours to find it again. It’s a lot of reading and typing and waiting for things to move through the system. We don't really have a fancy reception, just a small bench for people to sit and wait.
