You can find us at Patiala House Courts in Chamber Number 82. It is a very small space and it is absolutely packed with law books and stacks of legal files that go all the way to the ceiling. Working in the courts means our day is mostly dictated by the judges’ schedules and the shouting of case numbers in the hallways. We spend a lot of time drafting documents on old computers and trying to find enough space on the desk to sign a piece of paper. It’s a very loud environment with lawyers, clerks, and clients all rushing around in the heat. We don't have a quiet lobby or a place for people to sit comfortably; usually, clients just stand by the door or sit on a stool while we talk about their cases. There is a constant sound of people talking and the clatter of footsteps outside the chamber. We drink a lot of tea while we wait for our turn in front of the bench. Sometimes we are here until late in the evening trying to finish a filing that needs to be done by the next morning. It’s not the kind of law firm you see on television; it is just a lot of hard work, dusty folders, and running between different courtrooms. We just try to keep track of all the dates and make sure the paperwork is in order for the next hearing we have.
