Gole Market is one of those places in Delhi that feels like it hasn't changed in forever. Our branch at number 53 is right in that big circle. The architecture of the whole market is round, which makes the shops have these odd shapes inside. It’s a bit of a squeeze behind the counter. We get a lot of government employees who work in the offices nearby. They come in for lunch and things get very busy for about two hours. Then it goes back to being quiet. The walls are thick and the ceiling is high, which helps with the heat, but it still gets stuffy. We spend time cleaning the display cases and making sure the inventory is right. The traffic outside never stops; it’s just a constant loop of buses and cars going around the circle. It’s hard for people to find us sometimes because all the shops look similar from a distance. We’ve had to fix the sign outside a few times because the weather wears it down. It’s an old-school way of working. We don't have fancy tech, just the basic register and the kitchen equipment. Most of us have been working here for a while, so we know how to handle the lunch rush without talking much. We just get on with it. It’s a bit dusty and the paint is peeling in spots, but it is home for us.
