Natya Ballet Centre

Natya Ballet Centre has been located at 21 Bhai Veer Singh Marg in Connaught Place for quite a long time. Being in the heart of the city means we deal with a lot of traffic and noise, but it also makes it easy for people to reach us. The building itself is an older one, so the walls are thick and the ceilings are high. We have a couple of large practice halls with wooden floors that we’ve had to patch up a few times over the years. It doesn't look like those modern dance studios you see in the movies. It has a more practical, worn-in feel. There is a small area near the entrance where people leave their shoes, and it usually smells a bit like floor wax and old wood. We don't have any fancy lights or a big sound system. We just use a regular music player and a few speakers we’ve had for a decade. The teachers here are mostly older folks who have been dancing since they were children. We don’t do a lot of talking about missions or goals; we just get on with the dancing. Sometimes the plumbing in the back acts up, and we have to call the local repairman. It is a very grounded place. People come here because they want to learn the traditional styles properly, not because they want a fancy experience. It’s just how we do things in CP.
