About Mirajuddin & Sons – Art & Craft in New Delhi
We are over at Shop No 17 in Prithvi Raj Market, which is part of the bigger Khan Market area. Mirajuddin & Sons has been around for a long time. It’s a family thing, so you usually see a few of us behind the counter arguing about where a box should go or who forgot to write down an order. The shop is small and the shelves go all the way to the ceiling. We have to use a rickety old ladder to get things from the top. It makes a loud noise every time we move it. People come into Khan Market for all sorts of things, but they find us in our little corner when they need something specific. We don't use any fancy marketing. Most people know us because their fathers came here too. The floor is made of old stone that has worn down in the middle from people standing there for years. We have a small radio that plays the news while we work. It’s not a polished place with bright lights. It’s just a shop with a lot of history and too many boxes. Sometimes it takes a while to find what a customer wants, but we usually get there in the end. We just keep the door open and wait for the regulars to stop by for a talk and to pick up their items.
