Kathak Kendra

Kathak Kendra is on the second floor of building 318 in Greater Kailash II. It’s an interesting spot because you have to climb a few flights of stairs to get to us, but once you’re here, it’s a place just for dance. We’ve been in Greater Kailash for a while now. The room has large windows that let in a lot of light during the day. We don't have much in the way of furniture, just the essentials for the lessons. There’s a place for shoes by the door and a few mats on the side. We focus on the traditional side of things. It’s a place where people come to learn and repeat the same movements until they feel right. It’s not about being perfect immediately. We see a lot of students who are nervous at first, but the atmosphere here is pretty laid back. We don't have a big staff. It’s just the people who teach and the people who want to learn. Sometimes we stay late talking after a class is done. It’s a nice way to spend the time. The second floor gives us a bit of a view of the street below, which is always busy with people shopping and walking around. We just do our own thing up here without worrying about what others are doing. It's our own little world of dance where we spend our evenings.
