About Karishma Handicraft – Art & Craft in New Delhi
We run Karishma Handicraft out of a space at A/48, Mansarover Park. It is not a big corporate building or anything like that. It’s more like a busy house where everyone is always doing something with their hands. We have boxes of raw materials like wood, fabric, and beads stacked up in the hallway. Sometimes it’s hard to walk through without tripping over a carton. We don't have a regular shop front, so people who come to see us are usually regulars or folks who heard about us from a neighbor. The light in the main workroom is okay, but we still use desk lamps to see the small details on the crafts. It gets pretty noisy when everyone is talking and working at the same time. We usually have the radio playing in the background, mostly old songs that everyone knows. My sister helps with the billing, and I handle the shipping part. It’s a family-run kind of thing, and we don’t really care for fancy titles or business suits. When a big order comes in, we all stay late and eat dinner together while we finish the packing. It’s a bit of a squeeze in Mansarover Park, but it works for us. We just focus on getting the handicrafts finished and sent out to the people who ordered them. It's honest work and it keeps us busy from Monday to Saturday every single week.
