About Harmony School Of Music – Education in New Delhi
Gali Umrao in Pahari Dhiraj is one of those narrow lanes where you really have to know where you're going. Our music school is at number 4692, and it’s a bit of a climb to get inside. The building is old, like most of the structures in this part of Delhi. We have a few rooms dedicated to teaching, filled with harmoniums, tablas, and some string instruments. The lighting isn't the best, so we use some extra lamps to see what we're doing. It gets quite warm in the summer months, but we have some old fans that do their best. You can hear the sounds of the street vendors and people talking right outside the windows, which adds a certain vibe to the music. We don't have a professional reception area or anything like that. Usually, there's just a small desk where we keep our registers and take phone calls. People from the neighborhood drop in to ask about classes or just to listen for a few minutes. It’s a very informal place. We spend a lot of time just tuning instruments and talking about music with whoever is around. The floor is a bit uneven in places, and the paint is peeling near the ceiling, but it doesn't bother us. It’s a real place for people who actually care about learning to play. We aren't trying to be fancy. We just provide a space in this crowded part of the city for music to happen.
