Surajmal Vihar is usually busy, and our spot here at A-241 reflects that energy. People come in through the main door and you can usually hear someone practicing scales or trying to get a rhythm right on the instruments. It isn't a fancy place with marble floors or anything like that. We have some chairs that have seen better days and the walls are covered with a few old posters. Most of the time, the fans are whirring away because the Delhi heat gets pretty intense in the afternoons. We spend our days showing folks how to play and listening to the notes drift out into the street. Sometimes the neighbors pop in just to say hello or ask about the noise. It’s a bit cramped when we have more than a few people here at once, but we manage just fine. The tea stall nearby is where we usually get our mid-day break from. You get used to the sounds of traffic from Anand Vihar mixing with the music. It’s just how things are around here. We don't have a big front office or a receptionist. Usually, it's just one of us sitting at the desk handling the books and talking to parents who drop their kids off. It feels more like a home that happens to have a lot of music in it than a proper business. We’ve been at this address for a while now and the locals know where to find us.
