Handicraft Centre

You can find us at 56, Shanker Market, right in the middle of Connaught Circus. It is a busy spot and the Handicraft Centre has been sitting here for quite some time now. The shop is filled with all sorts of things people make by hand. It is often a bit crowded inside because we have so many items tucked into every corner and shelf. We don’t really have a system for where everything goes, it just kind of finds a spot eventually. Some days the tourists come in and other days it is just the locals looking for something specific for their house. We spend a lot of time dusting the shelves because the city air gets everything dirty pretty fast. Shanker Market has a lot of history and we feel like a small part of that. We buy things from makers all over and then put them out for people to see. It is not a high-tech business. We use old ledgers sometimes and the floorboards creak when you walk on them. We do not have fancy lighting, just the regular bulbs that sometimes flicker when the power is weak. It is a bit messy but that is how a real shop looks when it is actually being used every day. We like the noise of the circus outside and the way the sun hits the front windows in the afternoon. It is just a place to buy handmade stuff without any big drama.
