Gauri Dance Academy

Our dance space is at 200-D in Gautam Nagar. It’s where we spend most of our time, teaching whoever wants to learn. We have a floor and some mirrors, and that’s about it. The music starts in the late afternoon when the kids get out of school. We teach different styles, whatever is popular or requested. It’s not a fancy studio with air conditioning and high-end sound systems. It’s just a local place for people to move and learn some steps. Sometimes it gets quite hot in there, but nobody seems to mind once the music is going. We have groups for children and some for older people too. It’s a way for the neighborhood to stay active. We spend a lot of time counting out beats and showing the same moves over and over until everyone gets it. It’s rewarding to see someone finally nail a routine they struggled with. The academy is just our way of sharing what we know about dance. We aren't looking for fame, just keeping the rhythm going in Gautam Nagar. There’s always a bit of noise coming from our unit, but the neighbors are used to it by now. We don't have a big staff, just us and some speakers. Sometimes we have to mop the floor twice a day because of the dust, but that's just how it is. We keep the doors open for fresh air. It is a simple place where people can come and enjoy themselves for an hour.
