About Export Promotion Council For Handicraft – Art & Craft in New Delhi
We work out of EPCH House, which is located in Pockets 6 and 7. It’s a busy building where we try to help local artisans get their goods out into the wider world. The Export Promotion Council For Handicraft isn't really a business in the traditional sense. We are more like a hub. Our desks are usually piled high with paperwork, brochures, and samples from different craftsmen. You might see a beautiful carved wooden bowl sitting next to a stack of shipping manifests. It’s a bit of a mix of the creative and the bureaucratic. We spend a lot of time on the phone or talking to people who walk in looking for advice on how to sell their items abroad. It’s not a fancy place, despite the name. It’s just a lot of people trying to make sure the traditional skills of our country don't fade away. We organize fairs and events, which gets really hectic. During those times, we’re all running on very little sleep. But seeing a small-time maker finally get a big order makes it worth the long hours. We don’t have any slick marketing scripts. We just tell people the rules for exporting and help them fill out the right forms. It’s practical work. Most of us have been here for years and know the artisans by name. It feels like a big, slightly disorganized family working toward the same goal every single day.
