Directors Design

Directors Design is located up on the third floor of F-301/A. It’s a bit of a walk up the stairs when the lift isn't behaving, but we don't mind it too much. We spend our days in this space looking at different materials and sketching out ideas for rooms. It isn't a massive studio, just a couple of rooms filled with samples, rulers, and rolls of heavy paper. The light coming through the windows in the afternoon is actually quite nice for working. We aren't the type of people to wear suits or act like we’re in a big corporate boardroom. Usually, we just wear whatever is comfortable because we’re often moving things around or leaning over big drafting tables. We have a radio that stays on most of the day, usually playing local stations. We’ve been in this building for a while now and we know the other people on this floor quite well. We don't have a big fancy meeting room, so we usually just pull up some stools around our main workspace when someone comes by to talk about a job. It’s a practical setup and it works for what we need to do. We just focus on getting the drawings right and making sure the measurements are correct. When the day is over, we tidy up the scraps of paper, lock the door, and head home. It’s just honest work in a quiet corner of the building.
