Dompukur Junior High School

Dompukur Junior High School sits right on the Main Road in Udayagiri. It’s a small school, mostly serving the kids from around this part of Nellore. We don’t have those huge playgrounds you see in the cities, but there’s enough room for the students to run around during the lunch break. Every morning, the staff arrives early to sweep the floors and get the chalk ready for the blackboards. It’s an older building, so we’re always fixing a leaky tap or a creaky door. The noise from the main road can be a bit much sometimes, especially when the buses go by, but the kids are used to it. Most of the parents here work nearby and they drop their children off on their way to work. We have basic classrooms with wooden desks that have seen many years of use. It’s a simple environment. We focus on the regular subjects and making sure the kids actually show up for their exams. During the summer, it gets quite stuffy in the rooms, so we keep the windows wide open to catch whatever breeze comes through. It’s not a flashy place, just a local school where we try to get things done. We know most of the families by name since Udayagiri is the kind of place where everyone talks to each other. We also have a small cupboard for sports equipment, though it’s mostly just a few balls and cricket bats. The kids make the most of what they have. We try to keep the atmosphere calm inside, even when the traffic outside gets noisy.
