Our office is in Shreemangalam Apartment on Satana Road, which might seem like an odd place for a cashew business, but it works for us. Sri Ganesha Cashewnut Processing & Trading Pvt Ltd is basically a group of us who know everything there is to know about nuts. The smell of processing is something you never really get out of your nose, but it's a good smell. We spend our days looking at different grades of cashews and talking to farmers and buyers. Satana Road is always busy, so there is a lot of dust and noise, but the apartment keeps it a bit separated. We have a few rooms set up for the paperwork and some small-scale sorting when we need to check a specific batch. It isn’t a massive factory floor here; that happens elsewhere, but the heart of the trading goes on right in these rooms. Sometimes the neighbors complain if we have too many bags being moved at once, so we try to keep it down. We’ve had some of the same staff for over a decade now. They know the rhythm of the cashew season better than anyone else. We don’t use fancy software, just some old-fashioned books and a lot of memory. It’s a steady business and we just keep it moving one day at a time. It keeps us busy and the bills paid while we deal with the daily trade.
