Theerthamalai Collective Farming Farmer Producer Company Limited is based at Door No 275/2B in Kathirnakinahallikadathur. It’s a small place, really. We are a group of farmers from this area who wanted to stop being at the mercy of middle-men all the time. By joining up, we can talk to buyers as a group. It makes a difference. Most of us have been farming since we were kids. It’s in our blood. We know every inch of these fields. The collective isn't something we did to get rich; it was more about making sure we could stay afloat. We deal with all sorts of crops depending on the season. There’s always someone at the office, but usually, we are out working. It’s a lot of physical labor. Your back hurts at the end of the day, but that’s just how it is. We don't have a marketing team or anyone like that. We just tell it like it is. If the crop is good, we’re happy. If it’s a bad year, we hunker down and help each other get through it. It’s a real community feeling here in Kathirnakinahallikadathur. We just want to keep doing what we do best, which is farming. Working together just makes more sense in this day and age. It is a practical choice for all of us involved, and we just keep moving forward.
