Songuti Farmer Producer Company Limited is located in a place called Pajipar in the Nalbari district of Assam. We are over at Parameswar Chakrabort’s residence. Barbari is the local area people know us by. Nalbari is a place with a lot of history and farming is what keeps the wheels turning here. We started this group because we wanted to have a better way to organize our harvests. It’s not some big operation with employees in suits. It’s just us, the local farmers, coming together after a long day in the fields. We talk about what’s growing well and what isn't. Sometimes the market prices are frustrating, so we try to figure out a way to get a bit more for our hard work. The office is really just a room where we keep our records and meet up to chat. We don’t use a lot of complicated words because we are just practical people. The rain in Assam can be a blessing or a curse depending on the week, and we spend a lot of time watching the sky. We are just trying to look after our families and make sure the land stays productive. It’s a quiet life in Pajipar, but it’s ours. We aren't trying to be anything other than what we are—people who grow food and work hard. We just hope the next season is better than the last one for the village.
