Kalsi Engineering Works

Down on Kamptee Road in Nagpur, you'll find our workshop at Plot 66 in the Wanjra Lay Out. We go by Kalsi Engineering Works. It’s a pretty standard setup for a machine shop in this part of town. We’ve got our lathes and welding equipment all laid out in the shed. The dust from the road settles on everything if we don't keep it covered, so we’re always wiping down the benches before we start a job. We take on a lot of different jobs, mostly whatever the local industries in Nagpur need help with at the moment. It could be a broken gear or a frame that needs some heavy welding to hold it together. We don’t have a big marketing budget or a fancy office for meetings. Usually, we just talk to people right there on the shop floor while the machines are running and the sparks are flying. It gets incredibly hot in Nagpur, especially in May, so we start early in the morning to beat the heat as much as possible. My brothers and I have been doing this for years. We learned the trade from our father who worked in the same field. There’s no big secret to what we do, just putting in the hours and making sure the metal is joined right. We’ve had the same neighbors in the layout for a decade. It’s a tight-knit spot where everyone knows what everyone else is working on. We just keep our heads down and get the work done.
