Mallayyanna Giri Farmer Producer Company Limited is over at #555, a place we call 'Giridhama' on Temple Street. It’s right in the Bettadapura area of Periyapatna Taluk. We named it after the hills nearby because that's our home. This company is really just all the local growers getting together so we don't get pushed around by the big market buyers. We use the building on Temple Street as a central spot for everyone to meet. It’s where we decide when to sell and what price we should be asking for. Most of us have been friends for years, so the meetings can get a bit loud with everyone sharing their opinions. We don't have any professional managers; it's just us farmers taking turns to handle the paperwork. It’s not always perfectly organized. Sometimes someone loses a receipt or we have to wait for the power to come back on to use the printer, but we manage. We care about this land and the people living here. Our families have been in Periyapatna for generations, and we want to keep it that way. When you walk into 'Giridhama', you'll likely smell coffee and hear people talking about the rain. It’s a place for the community to come together and make sure we all have a chance to survive and maybe even do okay for once.
