Gurukul Motor Driving School

Driving around Mysore can be a bit of a challenge if you aren't used to it, which is why we started Gurukul Motor Driving School at No. 5 on 3rd Main Road in NR Mohalla. We’ve been sitting in this small shop for quite some time now. There is a desk where we keep all the forms and a couple of posters on the wall showing road signs that have started to curl at the edges. When a new person comes in, they’re usually pretty nervous about getting behind the wheel. We just sit them down and talk through the basics first. Our cars are parked out front, and they’ve got those "L" stickers that everyone recognizes. We spend most of our day sitting in the passenger seat, trying to stay calm while someone learns how to use a clutch for the first time without stalling. NR Mohalla has some quiet streets which are good for practice before we take them out into the heavier Mysore traffic near the market. It’s a lot of repetitive work, going over the same turns and reverse parking moves over and over. Sometimes we stop for a coffee break if the student is doing well. We don't have a big fancy office, just this one room and the cars we drive. It’s a practical business, and we just take it one learner at a time. The office door stays open most of the day to let a breeze in.
