We are based out in the Belavadi Industrial Area. It’s a large space because we deal with heavy electric equipment. Kirloskar Electric Co. Ltd has a long history here. The facility is big and can be quite noisy with all the industrial activity going on. We have different sections for different types of electrical work. Most of the staff have been here for years. It’s a very traditional industrial setup. We don’t have those modern open-plan offices you see in the city. It’s more about the shop floor and the engineering bays. The air always smells a bit like oil and metal. We get a lot of trucks coming through the gates every day. Our desks are usually covered in technical manuals and old logs. We follow the same routines we’ve had for a long time. It’s a steady pace. Sometimes we have to walk quite a bit just to get from one side of the site to the other. It’s not a glamorous job, but the work needs doing for the power sector. We don't spend money on fancy brochures or things like that. We just focus on making sure the machines and motors are built correctly. The local tea stall outside the gate is where most of us end up after the shift. It’s a simple, hardworking environment and we’re used to the grit of the industrial area. We just keep going every day.
