About Viraj Kamat Arts – Media & Advertising in Mumbai
Viraj Kamat Arts is run out of my place in Mahim on S V Road. It’s in Building No 5, Flat No 132, on the first floor. It isn't a retail store with a big sign outside. It’s more of a workspace where I do my art and projects. Because it's in a residential building, it stays relatively quiet compared to the noise of S V Road downstairs. My flat is usually smelling like paint or glue, and there are sketches and half-finished pieces leaning against almost every wall. I’ve always lived in Mahim, so this is home as much as it is a business. I do a lot of work for local clients who need something hand-painted or designed. It’s a slow process sometimes. I don't use fancy software for everything; a lot of it is just brushes and paper. My fingers are almost always stained with some kind of ink. People call me up, and we talk about what they want over a cup of tea. It’s very informal. Sometimes I lose track of time and work late into the night when the building is silent. I don't have a big staff or a corporate structure. It’s just me in my room, trying to make things that look good. It's a bit cramped, but it works for me. If you’re looking for a big shiny studio, this isn't it, but I get the work done.
