Vijay Laxmi Sweets

The shop is located at Mumbai Shimpoli Road 5. We have been here for a good number of years now. Every morning starts about the same way. We get the milk delivered early and the stove gets turned on before the sun is even up properly. The kitchen area stays quite warm all day because of the big vats. We don’t have much in the way of fancy decorations. There are just some glass counters and shelves where we put the trays of sweets. People from the neighborhood stop by on their way home from work. Sometimes they are in a hurry and we have to pack things fast. The Shimpoli Road traffic can get pretty loud outside, but you get used to it after a while. My nephew helps out with the accounts and the rest of us stay in the back or handle the customers. We use a lot of sugar and nuts every week. The floor usually has a bit of flour on it by the afternoon. It is a simple place. We don’t spend much time thinking about being a big business. We just want to make sure the boxes are filled and the shutters go down on time. Some days are more tiring than others, especially when it’s festival season and the line goes out the door. We just keep our heads down and keep working to get things done.
